9 Years in One House: What I’ve Learned About Life Transitions
Change is hard. Even when it’s exciting, it’s still hard. After 51 years of moving around frequently, I’ve now lived in the same house for 9 years—the longest I’ve ever stayed in one place.
It’s been an interesting realization, and it brought up a mix of emotions. On one hand, I’m grateful for the memories and comfort this home has provided. On the other hand, I feel a pull toward change, growth, and the next chapter.
Change is Hard, Even When It's Exciting
Just the other day, I spoke with my neighbor, who’s been in her home for 17 years. She’s ready to move, but saying goodbye to a place filled with family memories isn’t easy.
We both felt that tug-of-war between wanting something new and feeling nostalgic about the past. It made me reflect on how even positive change—whether it’s moving, starting a new chapter, or letting go of the past—can feel heavy.
The Pull Between Nostalgia and Growth
The reality is, transitions can bring a lot of self-doubt and uncertainty.
We get attached to what’s familiar, and leaving that comfort zone is scary. But I’ve learned through my own experiences (and those of the women I coach) that having the right support and clarity can make all the difference.
Here’s what I’ve discovered about life transitions:
It’s normal to feel both excited and anxious about change.
Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting; it means making space for growth.
Having support can ease the fear of stepping into the unknown.
Navigating Transitions with Support
You don’t have to go through transitions alone. Change, whether positive or challenging, can feel overwhelming.
As a coach, I help women navigate these emotions so they can confidently move forward in life’s transitions.
