Affirmations, Really?

Today, I want to share something that has been a bit of a struggle for me: affirmations.

I’m not quite sure why, but slowing down enough to write out affirmations has always been a challenge. I know affirmations can shift our mindset and boost our self-belief. But honestly, it’s hard for me.

Maybe it's because I tend to be a bit more pessimistic. 😬 Just being truthful, even though I’d rather say I see the beauty and goodness in everything. Life has thrown enough curveballs that my brain doesn’t easily reflect optimism.

Recently, I’ve been reading a few books, and they're reiterating how important affirmations are for creating a mindset shift. So, I’m going to work on it and teach my brain to view life a bit differently.

Friend, are you ready to learn with me? Here we go….

Did you know that the words you speak to yourself have a profound impact on your confidence and self-belief? It's true—affirmations are a powerful tool for rewiring negative thought patterns and fostering a more positive self-image.

What are affirmations anyway?

They are positive statements you repeat to yourself regularly to reinforce beliefs and attitudes that support your goals and aspirations. They're like little seeds of positivity you plant in your mind, nurturing your confidence and self-belief.

We all have negative thought patterns that hold us back from reaching our full potential. Affirmations help to counteract these patterns by replacing negative beliefs with positive ones, creating a new narrative that empowers and uplifts you.

Now, one thing I want to point out is that we aren’t just grabbing any ‘ole positive statement. Instead, we want to look for positive affirmations that are grounded in truth. I don’t know about you, friend, but my brain won’t believe it unless I “show evidence” that it is true or very likely to become true.

For example, I can struggle with the thought that I won’t be able to do something I love, like coaching, full-time. Or, I can start writing out the affirmation, "I am meant to serve others through coaching." That change helps me rewire the negative and find ways to make the affirmation happen.

Here are a few ways to help you (and me) grow the practice of writing affirmations:

Personalization: Reflect on areas where you struggle with self-belief and create affirmations that address those specific challenges. Make them positive, present tense, and deeply impactful, so they truly connect with you on a subconscious level.

Consistency: Make it a daily practice to repeat your affirmations, ideally in the morning and before bed, so they become deeply ingrained in your mind.

Belief: You have to believe in the truth of your affirmations for them to be effective. Trust that you are worthy of love, success, and happiness, and watch as your confidence and self-belief grow.

Finally, embrace the power of positivity in all areas of your life. Surround yourself with uplifting affirmations, positive people, and inspiring environments that nurture your confidence and self-belief. The more positivity you invite into your life, the more confident and empowered you'll feel.

Reach out and tell me if you regularly write affirmations, or is this a new practice you’re going to try?

Also, I want to remind you about my Mindset Journaling Guide if you are wanting to continue growing and shifting your mindset for confidence and clarity.
